| J.K Rowlings'
Harry Potter books have done a super job at getting kids away from
their computer and video games to do some old-fashioned reading
and imagining. Now that there's a Potter movie and games like this
one, the magic has come full circle. Rest assured, though, Harry
Potter's magic will return when the fifth novel is released. In
the while, kids will have some fun with this new PC game.
Kids play as Harry himself in
this adventure game that takes them back to the very beginning.
The program introduces the story line from baby Harry's arrival on
the doorstep of his soon-to-be wicked stepparents. Play
begins when Harry finds himself at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft
and Wizardry, where Dumbledore greets him and encourages him to explore
the school.
Players collect every-flavor
beans and wizard cards, attend classes and learn how to cast
spells, and encounter a number of characters from the book,
including Hagrid and Malfoy. A little further in the adventure,
Harry flies on a broom. Players need to unlock a Quidditch League
play mode which is really quite fun. The game of Quidditch takes a
bit of time to learn, but once the controls are understood, it is
relatively easy to win.
Pros:
- Gorgeous graphics and
wonderful sound effects.
- Kids get to experience
the characters and situations found in the first Harry
Potter book.
|
Cons:
- Controls are sometimes
difficult.
- Game-play is limited at
times.
- Has high video
requirements -- video doesn't run properly on some
machines.
