Legend
of Zelda: The Wind Waker, the first Zelda game for the Game
Cube, puts players in control of Link's direct descendant in a
lush, water-covered world. The Zelda series is a celebrated one,
and Wind Waker brings a cartoon-ish style to the series.
Link begins his journey on
peaceful Outset Island, where he lives happily with his
grandmother and younger sister. Tragedy strikes, however, with the
kidnapping of Link's sister by a giant bird. Link needs to find
his weapons before he sets out with a group of pirates to save
her. On his journey, he learns of many other problems plaguing the
land.
Many quests and activities round
out the game, including boat races, cannon shooting, a type of
one-sided battleship, and more. Since Wind Waker takes place on
the Great Sea, it is important for players to learn about the
islands. Players can build this knowledge by searching out fishmen
for helpful tips and information. Our testers thoroughly enjoyed
finding all 64 fishmen. Players also collect figurines. After
acquiring the color pictograph box, Link can give his colored
photos to a strange man hidden somewhere on a specific island.
This man will make a figurine of the person in one day, and the
figurine will then be displayed in one of many rooms. It requires
some skill to acquire all of the enemy figurines.
Overall, Wind Waker is an amazing
game with a rich story line, good controls, and outstanding
graphics. Kids don't have to be Zelda fans in order to happily
lose themselves in hours of engrossing gameplay.
