Children's Software Review :    I Love Spelling! 

I Love Spelling! was a somewhat disappointing program, especially after reviewing I Love Science! and I Love Math!, both of which are rather unique. The reasons? For one, the activities are not very engaging nor are they especially original, and, perhaps more importantly, negative feedback is given when children make mistakes. "If you can't say something nice, say nothing" comes to mind, especially when kids are trying to get extra help developing academic skills. 

The games in this program are arcade-style for the most. The CD-ROM drills spelling words. Parents and kids can choose the word lists they want to emphasize, but they cannot enter in their own spelling lists like some other programs on the market. 

This one is best for kids who are good spellers going into the game. For these children, there are some decent options, including an exploratory activity aside from the drills. Children who need help the most from a spelling program should steer clear of this title, however.
