~~September 2006~~Pet Vet 3D - Animal
Hospital

Kids can run their own pet veterinary clinic with
Viva Media's new Pet Vet 3D: Animal Hospital. From the makers of
some of our favorite games (including Fritz & Chesster chess
software titles and Wacky Machines), this new simulation game
features 3 challenging levels of play, 32 animals (from horses,
ponies, dogs, cats, rabbits, and pigs), a freestyle or story
mode, and adorable 3D graphics. Parents will love the fact that
kids need to examine pets, investigating symptoms, in order to
arrive at diagnoses, simply because kids exercise their thinking
skills in a creative (and enjoyable) manner. Players shop for
pet and vet supplies, hire help for their clinic, and train,
teach and play with their pets. They can also ride their horses.

pack, four new ferocious dinosaurs--the carnotaurus,

This expansion pack is downloadable for $4.99 at

If you haven't already added the African Adventure
expansion pack to your copy of Zoo Tycoon 2, you might want to
consider it. Our testers adore the additions!
Zoo Tycoon 2: African Adventure allows virtual
zookeepers to adopt and care for 20 new African animals from
eight biomes, such as the adorable meerkat or the endangered
Ethiopian wolf. Gamers of all ages can customize their dream zoo
with dozens of new buildings, objects and gift items, including
the full desert theme pack.
The new “African Adventure” expansion pack also enables a
safari-like adventure for the entire family as they view the
animals in their exotic habitats in Zookeeper, Zoo Guest and
Photo Safari modes, first introduced in “Zoo Tycoon 2.” Gamers
can further extend the safari experience by venturing into their
zoo in the new Jeep Liberty vehicle with outrageous, optional
animal-skin paint jobs. As always, children and parents can
broaden their knowledge of the animal kingdom with the Zoopedia

“Zoo Tycoon 2,” the sequel to the wildly popular, award-winning
“Zoo Tycoon,” continues to provide the ultimate zoo experience,
challenging gamers to design and build the most vibrant zoo
possible while working to ensure animal happiness, customer
satisfaction and profitability. Allowing players to step

Get a Clue
 Nancy
Drew returns to the PC in July with Nancy Drew: Danger By
Design, an interactive mystery CD-ROM. As is always the case
with this long-standing series, this game doesn't use violence
or sexual innuendo to draw in the pre-teen and teen crowd.
Minette is rocketing to the top of the haute couture world as
her fashion designs are being heralded as awe inspiring. She is
trying to finish her Spring Collection on time, yet her
investors are noticing something is amiss. Minette has ambitious
deadlines but has fired most of her staff. She recently started
wearing a mask and has been drinking unusual teas. Fearing that
her collection will not be completed and that something
underhanded is at work, a nervous investor has asked Nancy Drew
to
fly to Paris, assist Minette, and find out what’s fueling the
designer’s erratic behavior. Strange threats and unwelcome
guests arrive for Minette. Unsettling rumors connecting the
Moulin to an unsolved historic mystery distract Nancy from the
current task at hand.
As Nancy, players check into Minette’s web of contacts for
clues on her actions. From Minette’s old flame Dieter von
Schwesterkrank to gorgeous model Jing-Jing Ling, deceit is woven
deep within the fashion industry. Can Nancy help Minette deliver
her Spring Collection in time?
While you're waiting for the game, due out in mid-July, you
might want to check out the
demo here.

~~May 2006~~A new product from
Talking Fingers has been released. It's titled Wordy Qwerty—
Foundations of Reading and Writing Fluency, and presents1st
through 4th graders with captivating characters who playfully
reveal the logic behind twenty spelling rules and lead
interactive games for: mastering word families and “outlaw”
words; expanding vocabulary; and developing effective writing
and reading strategies. Dr. Herron’s methodology is endorsed by
a wide array of reading industry experts. The company's flagship
product is the Read Write & Type Learning System, which has also
been updated. The new sequel Wordy Qwerty integrates phonics,
reading, writing, spelling and typing. With the Read Write &
Type Learning System, 1st and 2nd grade children master the
forty sounds (phonemes) in the English language. They learn to
identify the individual sounds in the words they say, link those
sounds with letters, and connect both the sounds and the letters
with finger strokes on the keyboard. Soon, they are able to type
anything they can say.
With Wordy Qwerty, 2nd through 4th graders (as well older
students struggling with
reading and writing) move on to develop a deeper understanding
of how words are
constructed in English. They make the transition from phonetic
to accurate spelling and
learn to recognize frequently repeated patterns in new words.
Both products are available in home and school editions at the
Talking Fingers web site.

Curious George
For
more than 60 years, children and adults alike have followed the
tales of Curious George – known for his insatiable
inquisitiveness and taste for adventure. The story begins as The
Man with the Yellow Hat travels to Africa in search of a lost
artifact and returns with some unexpected cargo — a precocious
chimp named George. The Curious George game allows
players to meet and interact with their favorite characters from
the animated film in this exciting and colorful game world. As
the fun-loving George, players can run, jump, climb and swing
through 12 action-packed levels including the jungle, museum,
and Big City. Players must also use the character’s skills,
which include crafty escapes and distracting performances, to
elude trouble and avoid one entertaining predicament after
another. Throughout George’s big adventure, players are
encouraged to be curious and explore the “Curious Objects” in
each environment – drawers to peek in, machines to activate,
trunks to pop open, and even chairs to bounce on! Interacting
with these objects awards players “Curious Points,” which enable
them to purchase items in the Museum Gift Shop including concept
art, scenes from the animated movie and accessories for George.
Curious George’s bonus features and challenging mini-games
provide players hours of replay beyond the main story.
Curious George is available for consoles and the PC.

and rightfully so. Rube Goldberg fans and puzzle gamers will have
a great time with this game. Players build wild and wacky
contraptions/machines in puzzle or freestyle modes. A bit of
physics is part of the whole experience. These are brainteasers,

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Video Games

In
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry is mysteriously
selected as the fourth competitor in the dangerous Triwizard
Tournament and must confront a fire-breathing dragon, rescue
friends from the icy depths of the Black Lake, and navigate the
twisting mysteries of a vast, enchanted maze. Players will
experience all the adventures of the movie - from the Quidditch
World Cup campsite to a heart-stopping duel with Lord Voldemort
himself. The magical world of Harry Potter comes to life with
in-game characters that look like their big-screen counterparts
for the first time and nearly a dozen cinematic locations that
mirror those in the upcoming film. Additionally,
AcademyAward-nominated actor Ralph Fiennes carries on his role of
Lord Voldemort from the film by lending his voice talent and
likeness to the game. In another first for the franchise, players
can join forces with friends to combine and cast spells
cooperatively creating more powerful magic than ever before.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione are all playable characters in this
action-packed game where magic is everywhere. The game plays
considerably differently than previous Harry Potter games in that it
is more challenging and there is less hand-holding.

Exciting New Titles Coming This Fall from Kutoka
The second title in the Didi & Ditto grade-based
series of computer software is set to be released October 15th. Didi & Ditto
First Grade: The Wolf King will offer first-graders the chance to

Also from Kutoka, Creatures: Village is designed for
children ages 5 and up. Creatures: Village is an experiment
in artificial life where players hatch, play with, and breed their
own adorable virtual life forms called Norns. Norns are virtual
pets that require care and attention. Each one is unique and has
its own Creatures Digital DNAT, brain and biochemistry. The Norns'
behaviors are not pre-programmed. They make their own decisions
and learn from their mistakes so kids must help them by training
them to learn right from wrong. But just like real pets, this does
not mean they will always listen to their owners! The Norns live
in a colorful, bold and fanciful world that includes 15 exciting
themed play areas with tons of activities and fun things to do
from parachuting from an airship to baking a cake and even flying
through CloudLand in a magical sky boat. The Creatures: Village
world is a dynamic, living environment complete with weather and
seasons that affect Norns' daily activities. For example, flowers
bloom in the spring and trees lose their leaves in the fall. In
the summer, players can plant and grow lots of fruits and
vegetables but they need to make sure to stockpile enough food to
get their Norns through the cold season. Creatures: Village is a
true game for the young gamer where, without even realizing it,
players will be introduced to some of the notions of genetics,
biology and ecosystems, and they will also experience the
responsibilities that go along with taking care of another being.
