The following is a recipe for homemade clay that can be baked:
Homemade Clay for Baking:
Mix
together:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup of salt
1-1/2 cups of water
Knead the dough for approximately 10
minutes. Roll out dough with rolling pin to 1/4-inch
thickness. Children can use cookie cutters to cut out
shapes.
Clay shapes can be baked in a slow oven (250 F) for
approximately 2 hours, and should be left to cool for at least an hour.
Ideas for Clay Shapes:
Children can form shapes out of the dough to create miniature
sculptures, or cut out stars, hearts, and so forth, with cookie
cutters. Holiday decorations for the tree or to hang anywhere will
require a hole at the top of the shape before baking. Use a straw
to make a hole.
Cutouts and sculptures can be painted with water-based paint
(or oil-based with supervision).
