Book Review:    The Fabulous Book of Paper Dolls

Related Links

The concept of dressing up, and playing with, paper dolls has been around for a long time, but the delivery in this book is decidedly fresh and new. The Fabulous Book of Paper Dolls truly is fabulous. Young children will thoroughly enjoy this easy-to-do activity.

The book comes with 6 paper people and loads of paper clothes. Replacing old-fashioned paper tabs are adhesive dots that are re-stickable. As well, perforations replace the need for scissors. The result is a favorite pastime, made accessible to younger children.

The dolls are reversible and have different shades of skin color. On one side, the faces are drawn, while the other sides are blank and ready to personalize. There are babies and pets as well. Footstands for propping the dolls are included, in addition to a wealth of clothes and accessories (13 pages filled with pop-outs).

The book features fantasy backdrops for play time (6 in all, including a winter scene, ballroom, and so forth), as well as a cute and handy storage that is built right into the book--it looks like a wardrobe! Included are instructions for making your own clothes. Very satisfying.
