Software Review:    Adiboo Discover Nature, Animals & Planets

Adiboo tackles nature, the solar system, and history in this activity-crammed program. This title is one of a software series starring this enthusiastic animated character. Each 2-CD-ROM set comes with a first CD entitled Adiboo’s Playland, where kids explore Adiboo’s playhouse, garden, and kitchen. There are interdependent happenings going on in this magical play land, such as a gardening activity that, with proper care, eventually yields produce that is used in the kitchen for baking activities.

The second CD, the Land of Science, contains this program's early science activities. Steering a car around the Land of Science is a particularly fun way to get to the learning activities, but kids who prefer more traditional methods can always use the main map (pictured above). Children can visit the farm where they explore seasons and animal science, or enter the museum and answer quizzes about history. The total number of activities is hard to count -- suffice it to say, there is more than enough for eager children to do in this program.

Pros:
  • A tremendous amount of activities to explore
  • A wide range of difficulty levels

Cons:
  • Annoying prompts to choose a level
  • Audio can be grating for parents
  • Icons are sometimes confusing.
