Here are some of the latest releases in children's software and video games. In software: animal adventures, roller coaster rides, Tinker Bell, and Charlie Brown; and in video games: plenty of trading card games.

Good Grief!

Peanuts: Where's the Blanket Charlie Brown? Coming in May from Tivola Publishing is this new title starring the Peanuts gang. The predicament: Linus' much-loved security blanket has gone missing. Kids choose to play as either Charlie Brown or Lucy, and Snoopy tags along no matter which character kids select. As children search for clues, they play educational games and take care of Snoopy in a virtual-pet kind of way. This is a fun and charming program. For Win/Mac.

New from Disney

Disney's Ultimate Ride Coaster Deluxe allows players to design roller coasters, test them, and ride them too!  Play in Imagineering mode, and you will be challenged to design coasters according to given criteria; in Build mode, you get to build your own coaster with your own criteria. This Deluxe version expands the original title with new features and improved rendering, loading and frame rate. Choose from a number of different environments (like Asteroid, Mountain, Canyon), and themes (Gothic, Outer Space, Medieval, etc.). For Windows only, comparatively high system requirements.

Disney's You Can Fly! with Tinker Bell is a new software release following the latest feature film, Return to Never Land. Players find pieces of a Treasure Map and play flying games with Tinker Bell as she attempts to find Captain Hook's treasure. For ages 5 and up. Kids begin the game with a full tutorial on how to use the keyboard to "fly". Soon after, they'll be solving puzzles, and hunting for pieces of the Treasure Map. For Win/Mac.

All-new JumpStart title

JumpStart Animal Adventures is now shipping. Designed for children ages 4 and up, this CD-ROM introduces children to the animal world. Kids travel to the savanna, tropical rain forest, and more with the ultimate goal of becoming an official "animal expert". Arcade-style activities can be played along the way, and kids need to take "photos" of animals. Children learn a multitude of animal facts, earn rewards and stickers, and are treated to song-videos. The 3D graphics are awesome.
